Delta Air Lines and Junior Achievement Africa have joined forces to host the Girls LEAD! Camp in Accra, Ghana. This event, aimed at fostering development among young African female leaders, brought nearly 60 participants together in early March. Central to the event was Delta's decision to award scholarships to recognize innovative ideas from their National Company of the Year competition held in Mauritius in November.

Through Delta's funding, 52 girls were able to attend the event, where they engaged in activities designed to broaden their personal and professional networks. Emphasis was placed on critical thinking related to their futures and the development of social impact projects for implementation in their communities.

The week included various sessions, workshops, and panels on subjects such as personal branding, STEM careers, and emotional intelligence. Delta’s Maya Dukes and Ronke Adebiyi, both having African roots, led panels alongside other female leaders, providing insights into career development.

"The camp was an unforgettable experience; I saw firsthand how Delta is driving change by creating opportunities for young women to dream bigger and keep climbing," stated Dukes. "The curiosity of these girls was inspiring and I’m grateful to have played a small part in their story."

Ronke Adebiyi reflected on her experience with the camp by saying, "This experience was extremely rewarding for me. As a Nigerian woman with a STEM background, it was a full-circle experience to edify these young girls. It was beautiful to watch their minds unlock as the panel shared career paths they could pursue in aviation, and the idea that their interests could evolve into multiple careers over time."

Both Delta and Junior Achievement Africa emphasize education as a transformative tool for equity, aiming to expose the youth to diverse career possibilities that can positively shape their futures.
