Contactless travel, facilitated by interoperable biometric solutions, allows travelers to proceed through various stages of travel without paper documentation like passports or boarding passes. Efficient use of contactless technology can streamline processes such as bag drop, lounge access, security checks, screening, and boarding.

The Contactless Travel Directory offers key resources:

- A reference for airlines to determine biometric travel touchpoint availability across networks.

- Traveler eligibility data by location, indicating which travelers can use biometric services based on nationality, passport compatibility, and age.

- Technical protocols for airlines to connect with other biometric systems at airlines or airports.

"The release of the Contactless Travel Directory will make it easier for airlines to expand biometric service opportunities for their customers. As travelers expect ever greater efficiency, biometric recognition technology is taking on a growing role in facilitating travel. This Directory, along with IATA’s One ID initiative, aims to accelerate that transition with critical data and global standards," stated Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Operations, Safety and Security.

Digital service providers, in conjunction with identity management companies, will first demonstrate the Directory's use. During the Passenger Terminal Expo in Madrid this week, delegates can enroll using the WorldJet Airline App for fictitious flights from the UK to Spain. This registration will allow participation in biometric touchpoint experiences at booths hosted by Airware and IDEMIA.
