Qatar Airways is on the verge of completing its upgrade of the Boeing 777 fleet with high-speed Starlink satellite internet. This project underscores its leading position in in-flight connectivity. The airline plans to continue this initiative by introducing Starlink Wi-Fi on its Airbus A350 fleet, becoming the first airline to offer this service on the A350.
The airline reports that over 80 percent of its Boeing 777 fleet has Starlink installed, with more than 6,000 flights already providing gate-to-gate connectivity globally. This service offers fast internet, which is noted as the best available in the MENA region. Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group CEO, stated, “We are just a few aircraft away from completing a full fleet-wide upgrade of our Boeing 777s with Starlink connectivity—an industry-first for a widebody fleet of this scale. In April, we will become the first airline in the world to begin equipping the Airbus A350 with Starlink, taking another bold step in our journey of redefining connectivity in the skies. We affirm our continual efforts to enhance our onboard Wi-Fi experience, ensuring passengers enjoy greater comfort, convenience, and service.”
By enhancing the Airbus A350, the airline extends high-speed, free internet service to more passengers, supporting activities like streaming and gaming. Careful timing of these installations aims to maintain flight punctuality and service quality. The addition of Starlink to the A350 underscores Qatar Airways' dedication to passenger comfort and technological advancements.
