Air Canada has announced plans to introduce a new cabin appearance on its Airbus A220 aircraft. This change, revealed at a news conference in Hamburg, Germany, is set to feature mood lighting, larger overhead bins, and a refreshed overall vibe. The airline stated that the redesign will first appear in 2026.

"The cabin refresh will mark the debut of Airbus' 'Airspace' cabin on the A220," the airline stated. Known for its spacious designs and practical features, the Airspace cabin has been used by other airlines on different aircraft types. However, the A220 is a new addition to the Airspace fleet.

Passenger experience will also improve with the installation of larger overhead bins. "They'll be 20% bigger, the carrier said — room enough for up to 19 additional bags," providing more space on a plane that seats up to 137 passengers.

In addition to larger bins, passengers can expect fast, free Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members, along with 4K seatback screens. "The cabin is a lot warmer than it has been in the past, and that is on purpose," said John Moody, Managing Director of Onboard Product.

The new design elements are intended to deliver a warm and caring personality, reminiscent of "the warm personality, warm caring, that Canadians are known for."

Moody added, "We have the XLRs coming. We have other aircraft types coming that will be introducing new products, stay tuned." The enhanced cabins will appear with the arrival of Air Canada's 43rd A220, scheduled for March 2026. However, the airline has no current plans to retrofit existing A220s with these new products.
