Ethiopian Airlines has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Safran for the supply of Z400 economy class seats for its fleet of eight Boeing 777-9 aircraft. This agreement was announced during the Aircraft International Exhibition held in Hamburg.

The aircraft, set to be delivered in mid-2027, will feature 383 Z400 economy class seats, highlighting Ethiopian Airlines' strategy to expand its fleet and continue its growth. The Z400 seat is designed for long-range operations, offering upgraded inflight entertainment with 13-inch screens, and is built to be 12.5% lighter than previous models. These seats utilize fewer components and advanced materials to enhance cost efficiency and sustainability.

Ethiopian Airlines and Safran have a history of collaboration, having worked together on seating for the A350 aircraft. Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew, emphasized this partnership by stating, “We are pleased to have signed this MoU with Safran for the provision of the Z400 seats for our 777-9 aircraft. As a technology-driven airline, we are committed to enhancing our passengers’ onboard experience through state-of-the-art technology that offers passenger comfort while also ensuring operational efficiency and sustainability.”
