Miami International Airport (MIA) has been experiencing increased passenger traffic, having processed over 55 million passengers in 2024, marking it as the busiest year for the airport, significantly surpassing pre-pandemic levels. This escalation establishes MIA as a key hub for American Airlines and a primary access point for travel to and from Latin America. The busiest domestic routes from MIA are to Atlanta, New York LaGuardia, New York JFK, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Chicago, while London Heathrow, Bogotá, Panama City, Mexico City, and São Paulo are the busiest international destinations.

According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, narrowbody aircraft predominate flights from MIA. The Boeing 737-800 is the leading aircraft type, with an impressive 4,363 flights scheduled in April 2025. "American Airlines is by far the largest airline at Miami International Airport, with a market share of 57.2%," placing it ahead of Delta Air Lines and Spirit Airlines.

American Airlines, which operates a fleet of 303 Boeing 737-800s, uses this aircraft type extensively at MIA. Routes include key destinations such as New York LaGuardia, Tampa, Salt Lake City, Georgetown, St. Lucia, and Punta Cana. The newer Boeing 737 MAX 8 also plays a significant role at the airport, with 2,707 flights scheduled for April 2025.

The Embraer E175 stands as the third most common aircraft type with 1,795 flights in April 2025, primarily operated under the American Eagle banner by carriers like Envoy Air, Republic Airways, and SkyWest Airlines. Meanwhile, the Airbus A319, A321neo, and A321 are also extensively used, serving multiple domestic and international routes.

On the widebody front, Boeing models lead, with the 787-8 schedule including 258 flights. American Airlines remains a primary operator, launching flights to destinations such as Philadelphia, Barcelona, Paris, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Montevideo. Other widebody types, including the Boeing 777-300ER and 777-200ER, are used for long-haul and high-capacity routes at MIA by American and Emirates Airlines.

The attributes highlight the importance of Miami International Airport as a significant hub of American Airlines, with comprehensive modernization efforts underway under the MIA Future Ready program aimed at transforming infrastructure aspects such as passenger loading bridges, bathrooms, and conveyance units.
