The aviation industry is anticipating the launch of two major freighter aircraft, the Airbus A350F and the Boeing 777X Freighter. Although the Airbus A350F was originally planned to enter service in 2026, its debut has been postponed to 2027. Notwithstanding the delay, this model has garnered significant interest from a variety of airlines.

According to Ch-aviation, nine customers have placed orders for a total of 66 Airbus A350F cargo aircraft. Noteworthy among the buyers is Etihad Airways, which has ordered 10 units. Meanwhile, its rival, Qatar Airways, has ordered 34 Boeing 777X freighters. Other airlines acquiring the A350F include Air France, Cathay Pacific, CMA Air Cargo, Martinair (Netherlands), Silk Way West Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Starlux Airlines, and Turkish Airlines. Additionally, ten Airbus A350Fs remain unassigned.

Changes are occurring within the Air France KLM Martinair Cargo group (AFKLMP), following production delays and a fleet assessment. The group has reduced its order from eight to six A350Fs, opting to convert two orders to passenger A350-900s instead.

Boeing, however, faces its own challenges. The 777X Freighter, based on the 777-8 variant, has 59 firm orders. Customers include Qatar Airways, Cargolux, Lufthansa, All Nippon Airways, and Silk Way West Airlines. The company has struggled with certification issues, production delays, and market competition.

Airbus is managing supply chain complications resulting from its relationship with Spirit AeroSystems, which manufactures components for Airbus models. As part of a strategic move, Airbus is set to acquire relevant operations from Spirit AeroSystems, thereby securing its supply chain.

Future developments, such as potential US tariffs on European goods and their impact on aviation companies like Airbus and Boeing, are still uncertain. The implementation of tariffs could affect pricing and market share, potentially favoring Airbus in the long run.

Boeing continues to face challenges in the competitive landscape with Airbus, which has made strides in various markets and maintained strong production numbers.
