Ethiopian Airlines has announced a 15% discount on all flights to or from Porto, starting July 2, 2025. The announcement was made in a post on X on April 10.

According to Ethiopian Airlines' official press release, the airline is set to commence a new passenger flight service to Porto, Portugal, effective July 2, 2025. This new service includes a single stop via Madrid, Spain, and aims to enhance seamless connectivity for passengers in the area. The introduction of this route underscores the airline's commitment to providing more travel options and strengthening ties between Africa and Europe.

The new Addis Ababa–Madrid–Porto route will operate four times a week using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Flight ET740 will depart from Addis Ababa on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 23:10, arriving in Madrid at 05:55 the next day, and then proceed to Porto, arriving at 07:15. The return flight, ET741, will depart from Porto on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 19:55.

Ethiopian Airlines' expansion into Porto marks its second destination in Portugal after Lisbon. This move is part of the airline's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Southern Europe and provide increased connectivity options between Africa and Portugal. As of early 2025, Ethiopian Airlines operates approximately 140 weekly passenger flights across Europe to 22 destinations.

Ethiopian Airlines is the national carrier of Ethiopia and one of Africa’s largest airlines. Founded in 1945, it operates a hub-and-spoke network from Addis Ababa and connects over 130 international destinations across five continents. It is a member of the Star Alliance.
