Citi has announced a limited-time offer for its cardholders, allowing them to get a 30% bonus when transferring ThankYou Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Typically, ThankYou Rewards members experience a 1:1 transfer ratio, but now they will receive 1,300 Virgin points for every 1,000 points transferred. This offer lasts until May 17.

To take advantage of this offer, members must transfer in increments of 1,000 points, requiring rounding up when calculating the necessary transfer amount for an award. The promotion creates an opportunity for travelers to book economically priced flights to Europe this summer.

Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club had updated its pricing model in 2024 to dynamic pricing. Despite potential high redemption rates during peak times, the airline introduced Saver fares starting at 6,000 Virgin points. Carrier-imposed surcharges were also reduced, with fees beginning at $73.70 for flights from North America to London Heathrow and Manchester airports.

With Citi's 30% transfer bonus, only 5,000 ThankYou Rewards points are needed to book a Virgin Atlantic Saver fare. These flights include benefits such as a checked bag, meals, and in-flight entertainment. Availability for these fares is high from airports like Boston Logan, Dulles, and John F. Kennedy to the United Kingdom in May, June, and September.

A local advises that these months are ideal for visiting the U.K. Flights from the U.K. to North America also start at 6,000 Virgin points under this offer, with higher fees due to the U.K. Air Passenger Duty. To locate Saver fares, travelers can use Virgin Atlantic's reward seat checker or tools like Seats.aero.

Citi offers various credit cards that earn ThankYou points, including the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card, Citi Rewards+ Card, and Citi Double Cash Card. These options cater to different spending habits, from supermarket and gas station purchases to everyday spending.

Potential users are cautioned to make informed decisions before transferring points, considering potential devaluations. However, those planning a Flying Club redemption are encouraged to transfer their Citi points by May 17 to benefit from the 30% bonus.
