Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-900ER | Official Website

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced an investigation into an incident involving a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-900ER. On April 14, 2025, the aircraft returned to Tucson International Airport due to engine-related issues. According to the FAA, the flight, registered as N892DN and operating as flight DL937 from Tucson to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, experienced problems that led to the decision to return.

Flightradar24 records show that the flight departed Tucson at 12:43 local time and began ascending, but leveled off at about 17,000 feet before descending. At 12:55, the flight crew declared an emergency. The plane landed safely at Tucson at 13:20 and taxied to the gate while maintaining the emergency signal.

Despite the incident, the aircraft is scheduled to depart for Salt Lake City International Airport under a special flight code, DL9964, the following day, indicating potential extensive repairs. Additionally, Delta scheduled another 737-900ER, N862DN, to operate a rescheduled flight from Tucson to Atlanta under flight code DL9930.

Cirium’s Diio Mi Airline planning system notes that flight DL937 is one of two daily flights operated by Delta between Tucson and Atlanta, the other being flight DL886. Meanwhile, return flights from Atlanta to Tucson are scheduled at 10:27 and 21:18.

The affected aircraft, N892DN, was among the final 737-900ERs constructed by Boeing and powered by CFM International CFM56 engines. Delta, the largest operator of 737-900ERs, received the delivery of this jet on March 13, 2018.

Boeing delivered 505 737-900ERs, with 379 going to U.S.-based airlines. Besides Delta, other major operators include Alaska Airlines and United Airlines. In April, Delta scheduled 4,508 weekly flights against Alaska Airlines' 1,757 and United Airlines’ 3,055 departures, according to Cirium’s data.
