American Airlines is set to introduce a new benefit for members of its AAdvantage loyalty program. These frequent flyers will gain access to complimentary inflight WiFi starting January 2026. This development is part of a partnership with telecommunications company AT&T. American Airlines, based in Texas like AT&T, tested the service on select routes before making the full announcement.

The airline aims to equip 90% of its fleet with this WiFi service, aiming to offer the most substantial inflight connectivity among US domestic carriers. Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer at American Airlines, stated, "Our customers greatly value staying connected while in the air, whether communicating with friends, getting work done, checking in on social media or streaming their favorite subscription services. We’ve been working diligently to outfit our aircraft with best-in-class high-speed WiFi and together with AT&T are proud to offer those services at no cost to our most loyal customers."

The WiFi offering will be powered by Viasat and Intelsat, also US-based companies, and will be accessible on over two million flights each year. Jenifer Robertson, EVP & GM of Mass Markets at AT&T, elaborated on the partnership, emphasizing, "connectivity brings people a world of possibilities," such as "staying in touch with those who matter most, following a favorite sports team or catching up on that show everyone is talking about." She added that AT&T is "proud to partner with American Airlines to connect people to what matters most to them."

American Airlines will also extend this WiFi service to regional aircraft operated by its partner carriers, with plans to equip more than 500 regional planes with high-speed WiFi by the end of 2025. This rollout will ensure that all American Airlines flights, including those on regional routes, will have the new internet service operational by the beginning of 2026.

Previously, American Airlines conducted a trial period for free WiFi to test its service quality, with results reportedly exceeding expectations. Currently, they offer free access to their website via their WiFi network, while broader access requires payment plans. This initiative marks a significant step in efforts to enhance travel experiences for American Airlines' loyal customers.
