Kew West International Airport has marked a significant milestone in its ongoing renovation journey with the opening of its new Concourse A. Known as a major gateway for leisure travel in South Florida, the airport has been under extensive construction to enhance its facilities. American Airlines is the primary carrier at Key West, holding over 30% market share.
On Monday, April 14, the new terminal witnessed its first flight departure at around 7 AM. Delta Air Lines Flight 1072 took off to Atlanta, marking the first use of the new concourse. Passengers now have access to air-conditioned waiting areas and glass jet bridges, a significant improvement over the previous makeshift arrangements. The flight departure was met with excitement, as noted by a Delta agent: "You lucky people; you are on the very first flight out of the new airport on the first jet bridge out of Key West."
However, the opening did not go entirely smoothly. Some technical issues were reported, including inoperative passenger announcement systems, incorrect information screens, and Wi-Fi disruptions. Efforts are focused on resolving these issues to meet passenger expectations.
