Iberia Airlines has confirmed a notable shift in its flight schedule connecting Madrid and Dallas/Fort Worth, introducing its first overnight service from Europe to the US. This new plan, as first reported by industry observer Ishrion Aviation and detailed in Cirium Diio, involves flights leaving Madrid at 00:55 and landing in Texas by 05:30 local time. This timing marks an unprecedented schedule for European-original flights bound for the US/Canada.

The adjustment makes Iberia the second carrier, along with Turkish Airlines, to offer such overnight North Atlantic flights. For the upcoming winter schedule starting October 26, Iberia will temporarily reduce its Dallas flights to four times a week, with the Airbus A330-300, as opposed to its summer daily flights. This reduction aligns with the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) slot seasons.

Mikel Garcia, vice president of Iberia, commented on the unique timing, "Iberia will be only the second passenger operator, alongside Turkish Airlines from Istanbul Airport." He added that Turkish operates two such routes during summer; Miami and New York JFK, with only the Miami route operating in winter.

The strategic adjustment aligns with Iberia's collaboration with joint venture partner American Airlines. The new schedule allows passengers to access a wider range of connecting flights upon early arrival in Dallas. This includes connections on American's extensive network, much like Iberia's approach for South American routes.

Comparatively, Turkish Airlines had originally introduced overnight flights to Miami in 2015, altering the plan in 2021 to support increased customer demand. With similar strategy plans, Turkish Airlines operates summer overnight flights to New York, complementing its daily service, and will continue this pattern during the 2025/2026 winter season.

"We must be confident of growing competitiveness and market share to make such a change," notes Garcia.

The standout move highlights Iberia's interest in expanding its unique overnight offerings. As of the latest reports, the airline continues to provide night-time transatlantic services to several long-haul destinations from Madrid, although some like Córdoba and Luanda are no longer served. Current routes include Guayaquil, Guatemala City, and Quito, which have transitioned to day-time departures.

Such shifts indicate evolving dynamics and strategic planning within Iberia's long-haul market presence, aiming to capture a distinct segment of the transatlantic travel market.
