Air New Zealand is set to introduce a new look for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, featuring redesigned business-class suites. The Auckland-based airline announced it has completed the cabin overhaul for one of its Dreamliners, introducing four new spacious pods at the front of the plane. This is the first of 14 787s scheduled for updates by the end of next year.

The freshly updated aircraft arrived in Auckland after a 184-day retrofit in Singapore, showcasing modifications from new seats across all cabins to updated carpet, curtains, and lavatory wallpaper. The airline's revamped Dreamliner cabin highlights include the new Business Premier Luxe seats equipped with a buddy seat, allowing two passengers to dine together.

The retrofitted 787-9s will house 26 business-class seats total, offering both Luxe and lie-flat pods. In premium economy, 33 recliners will feature winged headrests, while the main cabin will include 213 economy seats, incorporating the Economy Skycouch option.

Air New Zealand plans to refurbish all its Dreamliners, expecting seven jets to be updated by the end of 2025 and the remainder by the end of 2026. "Seeing the first of our 14 Dreamliners to undergo this transformation arrive home is a huge moment for our people, our customers, and the future of Air New Zealand," stated Chief Commercial Officer Jeremy O'Brien.

Travelers can check award seat availability through Air New Zealand's partners, as it is a member of the Star Alliance. This allows booking through programs such as United Airlines MileagePlus and Air Canada Aeroplan. It's yet to be announced where the first refurbished 787 will operate, but the fleet serves several U.S. routes, including Honolulu, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York, according to Cirium data.
