These flights occur when private jets travel without passengers, typically returning to their home base or moving to another location for a future flight. An empty leg flight might, for instance, occur if a jet travels from San Francisco to New York with passengers and then returns to San Francisco without them. To offset operational costs, owners sell seats at a lower price.

Several platforms provide information on available empty leg flights. These include GlobeAir, EvoJets, Jettly, VistaJet, and Vaunt.
