Hawaiian Airlines s Boeing 787 Dreamliner | Official Website

Hawaiian Airlines is set to introduce significant changes to its long-haul flight operations by shifting its Boeing 787 Dreamliner service to Seattle. Starting August 20, 2025, Hawaiian Airlines will begin daily Dreamliner flights between Honolulu International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, with the frequency increasing to two daily flights beginning September 11, as reported by Cirium, an aviation analytics company.

The airline's focus on Seattle comes as the Boeing 787 is withdrawn from the Los Angeles International Airport-Honolulu route. From September 12, Dreamliner service on this route will be reduced to one daily flight and will be completely phased out by October 26. The Los Angeles route will revert to using the older Airbus A330 aircraft, according to the Hawaiian Airlines booking website.

The changes represent Hawaiian Airlines' strategic shift in fleet allocation. Starting August 20, the airline will offer daily 787-9 service between Seattle and Honolulu, with a second daily flight added from September 11. Consequently, the route will see 14 weekly roundtrip Dreamliner flights.

"As of September 12, 2025, Dreamliner service on the Los Angeles – Honolulu route will be reduced from two daily flights to just one," the company announced. The move marks the continuation of a schedule reshuffle that will culminate on October 26, when Hawaiian Airlines will operate the final Dreamliner flight on the Los Angeles-Honolulu route.

A traveler expressed disappointment at the news of the Dreamliner being removed from the Los Angeles route. "Now, it’s already going to be gone." Currently, further details from Hawaiian Airlines are pending as a spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

The Dreamliner offers a distinct onboard experience, featuring Hawaiian Airlines' Leihōkū Suites in business class, which include lie-flat seats and privacy doors in a design inspired by Hawaiian culture. Each aircraft accommodates 34 Leihōkū Suites and 266 Main Cabin seats, with additional touches such as oceanic-patterned carpets and tropical plant illustrations.

Hawaiian Airlines currently operates three Boeing 787-9s with an average age of 1.8 years, with two more on the way, according to Planespotters.net.

In addition to the Dreamliner adjustments, Hawaiian Airlines is enhancing its passenger experience by relocating from the Tom Bradley International Terminal to Terminal 6 at Los Angeles International Airport, effective April 22. This move reduces walking times and improves alignment with partner airline Alaska Airlines, which shares Terminal 6.

Lastly, Hawaiian Airlines' flight attendants have ratified a new three-year contract extension as of April 17, with the support of 88% of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA voting members. The agreement brings changes in pay, retirement, profit sharing, and aligns financial incentives with those of Alaska Airlines.
