Boeing 737 MAX | Official Website

Boeing published its first-quarter results, ending with a net loss of $31 million while reporting an 18% increase in revenue from the previous year. This improvement is linked to a rise in deliveries compared to the same period in 2024. The 737 MAX, a key program for Boeing, saw a gradual increase in production rates during the quarter. The company aims to reach a production rate of 38 units per month by the end of 2025.

In its operational performance, Boeing swung to a profit, marking an operating profit of $461 million. This is a significant change from the $86 million operational loss in the first quarter of 2024. "We start to see improved operational performance across our businesses from our ongoing focus on safety and quality," stated Kelly Ortberg, Boeing's President and CEO. He emphasized the continuation of the company's recovery efforts.

Boeing reported $19.4 billion in revenue for the first quarter. The cash outflow was reduced to $1.6 billion, down from $3.3 billion in the previous year. Cash and investments in marketable securities amounted to $23.7 billion at the quarter's end.

The Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) division delivered 130 units, a significant increase from 83 in the first quarter of 2024, fueling a 75% rise in revenue to $8.1 billion. Despite an operational loss of $537 million, this was an improvement from the $1.1 billion loss reported a year earlier.

On production rates, the 737 program is set to reach 38 aircraft per month, although it hasn't hit that target yet. "The program has not reached rate 38 this year, and the program has not reduced its rate," a Boeing spokesperson mentioned. The 787's production remained stable at five per month, with plans to increase to seven. The 777X resumed flight tests and could be certified in 2025, with deliveries starting in 2026.

During the quarter, Boeing booked 221 net orders from various airlines and firms, including Korean Air, BOC Aviation, and Japan Airlines. Notable transactions include Korean Air's confirmation for 20 777X and 787-10 each, Japan Airlines' order of 17 737 MAX 8, and BOC Aviation's purchase of 55 737 MAX planes.

Boeing's results this quarter are its strongest since the fourth quarter of 2023.
