Boeing's 777X | Boeing

Boeing faced a challenging year, recording an $11.8 billion loss primarily due to supply chain disruptions, a machinist strike, and issues related to the 737 MAX, as reported by Macro Trends. As the company seeks ways to improve its financial standing, attention has turned to the new Boeing 777X, set to be the most expensive aircraft available in 2025.

Boeing, founded on July 15, 1916, and headquartered in Chicago, saw a 14.5% revenue decline by the end of 2024, totaling $66.5 billion. Despite this, the company succeeded in delivering more aircraft than its competitor Airbus in February, delivering 44 units compared to Airbus's 41, according to ch-aviation.

The new Boeing 777X was introduced in November 2013 and is expected to market at $442.2 million, with initial deliveries beginning in 2026. The aircraft will be available in two variants: the larger 777-9, which can hold 426 passengers, and the smaller 777-8, with a capacity of 395 passengers. Qatar Airways has already placed significant orders for the 777-8F freighter variant with 16 options, with deliveries anticipated starting in 2027. Furthermore, the BBJ 777X, a business jet variant, will be offered at $442.8 million for the 777-8 and $453.6 million for the 777-9, as noted by Luna Jets.

The 777X's range is notable, with the BBJ 777-8 capable of flying 11,645 nautical miles, according to LunaJets. While it cannot travel completely around the world, Military Aerospace describes it as reaching more than halfway. This extensive range is particularly important for private and business aviation customers, despite orders not being available immediately.

The 777X series features advanced aerodynamics and efficiency, inspired by the 787 Dreamliner. Composite wings, larger cabin windows, and improved engines contribute to its appeal. There are plans for a 777-8F freighter model and potentially a stretched 777-10, contingent on market interest.

Despite recent challenges, Boeing has amassed a backlog of 6,319 orders waiting for delivery, including 604 for the 777X series, according to company data. The company delivered 130 aircraft by the current year, promising significant upcoming activity.

In the broader context of aviation, speculation arose about the world's most expensive private jet, an Airbus A380 initially purchased by Saudi Prince Al Waleed, worth $600 million after modifications. However, as no deal concluded, this does not surpass the 777X as Boeing's most costly offering.

The Boeing 777X, with its superior range and fuel efficiency innovations, stands to have a substantial impact on commercial aviation.
