In a recent study conducted by Playstar, Delta Air Lines emerged as the top choice for pet-friendly travel among US airlines. Numerous regulations and policies make the task of selecting a suitable airline challenging for passengers wishing to transport their pets during flights. Delta Air Lines, a major US carrier, permits up to four pets per passenger, surpassing the offerings of other carriers.

However, Delta imposes restrictions, including prohibiting pets in international business class cabins such as Delta One and Delta Premium Select, due to seat configurations. Certain seat types like bulkhead and emergency exit rows across all aircraft are also restricted for pet travel. Additionally, pets must remain in their carry cases throughout the journey and while in Delta's Sky Club lounges. The cost to travel with a pet on Delta flights within the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands is $150, while international routes are priced at $200 for each pet.

American Airlines ranks as the second-most expensive option for pet travel in the US. The carrier allows pets in both the cabin and cargo hold, with fees varying based on destination and flight length for cargo transport. American Airlines' PetEmbark service, designed for cargo hold transport, emphasizes high standards in pet care and handling, benefiting from over 65 years of experience.

United Airlines limits passengers to two pets onboard, but each pet requires a separate seat purchase. The airline charges $125 per pet and ensures the pet carrier fits under the seat. The former PetSafe program for cargo transport has been discontinued except for specific personnel.

Allegiant Air offers the lowest fares for pet travel among major carriers, charging $50 per pet. However, their service is restricted to the contiguous United States. Allegiant requires pets to remain in their carriers, which count as one of the two allowable onboard items per passenger.

Southwest Airlines permits two pets per passenger with a fee of $58 per pet per flight. Pets are confined to the cabin, and carriers must fit under the seat. Hawaiian Airlines charges $125 per pet, per flight, offering a reduced fee for inter-island flights, amidst Hawaii's stringent pet transport regulations.

Overall, Delta Air Lines' comprehensive route network and explicit policies contribute to its standing as the most pet-friendly airline in the United States. Despite the complexities associated with pet travel, many carriers provide necessary accommodations for pet lovers reluctant to leave their pets behind.
