United Airlines officially reopened its Polaris lounge at Chicago O'Hare International Airport after several months of refurbishment. The upgraded space features additional amenities and expanded seating for premium travelers. The lounge reopened after initial announcements and renovations that began in August 2024. During the renovations, the lounge remained operational, but it was temporarily closed in January for significant upgrades ahead of the planned spring reopening.

The newly refurbished lounge now offers nearly 25,000 square feet, expanding by 50%. Aaron McMillan, United's Managing Director of Hospitality Programs, stated, "Our vast international network is one of United's unique strengths, and our United Polaris lounges help set the tone for business class travelers before or after their long-haul flights. Customers are going to love our new Chicago lounge because it gives them more of all of the things they want most—more space, more amenities, and more dining options—and we'll carry this new elevated design into future lounge openings and renovations across our United Polaris lounge portfolio."

With the expansion, seating capacity has increased to accommodate 350 guests, a significant improvement during peak times for travelers on long-haul flights featuring large premium cabins. The lounge also introduces a 50-seat private dining room offering à la carte meals and a variety of curated premium food and beverages. Other enhancements include a second bar styled as a speakeasy with premium wine and champagne options and six additional restrooms and private spaces.

United Airlines collaborated with local home retailer Crate & Barrel for the decor of the refurbished space. The collaboration marks the retail company's first partnership with an airline.

Chicago O'Hare remains an important hub for United Airlines, serving as a key location in its network. United describes itself as the "Windy City's hometown airline" and offers both domestic and international flights from this hub. The airline provides long-haul service to regions such as Europe, Asia, and South America, including 15 European destinations.

Current data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, shows United Airlines operates a high volume of flights to and from Chicago O'Hare Airport. For May 2025, the top long-haul destination is London Heathrow Airport, served with three daily flights using the Boeing 767-300ER.
