Delta Air Lines has announced a 4% salary increase for its ground staff and flight attendants, marking the fourth consecutive year of pay hikes for these employees. This decision comes in the wake of Delta distributing over $1 billion in bonuses as part of a profit-sharing initiative, as the airline anticipates another year of profitability.

Delta's CEO, Ed Bastian, emphasized the company's tradition of investing in its employees, stating, "For a century, Delta has acted on the belief that when we invest in our people first, they deliver excellence for our customers. Combined with the strength and resiliency of our business, these core values will continue to set Delta apart even as we face new pressures."

The latest raise follows a previous 5% increase and a rise in starting pay to $19 per hour last year. Delta asserts that since 2022, it has "made cumulative investments of 25% or more in compensation in each of [its] largest frontline workgroups."

The pay increase will not apply universally to all employees. Delta clarified that the raise will be granted "to eligible employees worldwide," without detailed specifications of the eligibility criteria. For flight attendants and ground staff, the increase in the hourly base rate will take effect on June 1st. Additionally, a "total pool of 4% for merit increases" is reserved for employees evaluated on performance and market competition.

This pay raise is seen as a strategic move by Delta to support its workforce amid economic uncertainties and discussions regarding tariffs affecting the aviation industry. Despite these challenges, Delta's commitment to long-term employee investment remains steadfast, intending to sustain its reputation in the aviation sector.

Earlier in 2025, Delta announced a profit-sharing scheme that distributed about $1.4 billion among its workforce, amounting to an average bonus equivalent to five weeks of pay for eligible employees.
