JetBlue is reportedly in discussions with United Airlines regarding a potential partnership. According to a Reuters report, three industry sources indicated that both carriers are exploring ways to collaborate. This news comes after JetBlue’s failed attempts to maintain its Northeast Alliance with American Airlines and to merge with Spirit Airlines.

The discussions with United Airlines are described as different from JetBlue's previous alliance with American Airlines. Sources cited by Reuters mentioned that the partnership is expected to enhance customer connectivity and loyalty programs without coordinating schedules and pricing. A top executive at United confirmed ongoing talks with a domestic airline but did not provide further details.

American Airlines recently acknowledged it had engaged in discussions with JetBlue to renew their partnership. However, differing business priorities led to the decision not to proceed with the collaboration. This decision followed the dissolution of their Northeast Alliance due to regulatory concerns over competition.

JetBlue's previous merger attempt with Spirit Airlines ended in March 2024 after regulatory barriers hindered the process. The airline subsequently focused on adjusting its business strategy, which included a reduction in capacity and efforts to improve profitability. JetBlue reported a net loss of $208 million in the first quarter of 2025.

As negotiations with United Airlines continue, the aviation industry awaits further developments regarding JetBlue’s strategic partnerships.
