American Airlines is preparing to launch its new business-class seats as it takes delivery of two new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners featuring the Flagship Suite Preferred seats. The airline received these aircraft at its Dallas Fort Worth International Airport home base on April 29. These jets, delivered from Charleston, South Carolina, and Paine Field near Seattle, have been anticipated since their introduction nearly three years ago.

The Dreamliners are configured with 51 business-class suites, emphasizing privacy and comfort with sliding doors and a chaise lounge option. American Airlines CEO Robert Isom noted that these deliveries, along with planned updates to existing seats, will increase the airline's premium seating capacity by about 50% by the end of the decade.

The first routes for these newly configured aircraft have not been announced. However, the airline's network planning head, Brian Znotins, previously pointed to potential services between Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and London's Heathrow Airport.

Aside from the Dreamliner, American Airlines plans to retrofit its Boeing 777-300ERs with the new seats and offer them on Airbus A321XLRs, which will serve on premium transcontinental and eventually international routes.

The introduction of these aircraft was delayed due to issues at Boeing but is now expected to proceed, with the Airbus A321XLRs entering service by late 2025.

"These deliveries, along with the planned refresh of existing seats, are expected to grow American's lie-flat and premium economy seating by approximately 50% by the end of the decade," Isom said during the company's first-quarter earnings call.
