Lufthansa is introducing a new long-haul cabin experience dubbed Allegris, featuring revamped seating options in Economy, Premium Economy, Business Class, and First Class. The German airline, which officially launched Allegris in 2017, originally planned to debut the new cabins on the Boeing 777X in 2020. However, delays pushed their introduction to 2024 on an Airbus A350-900 servicing a Munich-to-Vancouver route.

Currently, nine of Lufthansa's 30 Airbus A350-900s are outfitted with the Allegris cabin. Future Airbus A350-900 deliveries will also include Allegris features. As of now, no formal retrofit plans for existing A350s have been announced, but there is speculation they may be updated eventually. Johannes Meinardt, spokesperson for Lufthansa, stated that “the future deliveries of A350-900s will indeed include the new Allegris cabins."

Lufthansa also plans to implement Allegris on future deliveries of 36 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and 15 Airbus A350-1000s. These aircraft will replace older models and will come equipped with updated seating configurations. Additionally, 20 Boeing 777-9s are confirmed to receive Allegris, while the Airbus A380 will receive a different type of cabin upgrade.

Lufthansa currently operates 27 Boeing 747s. The existing fleet includes 8 older 747-400s and 19 newer 747-8i models, which will receive the new Allegris. However, only the lower deck will be completely refitted, while the upper deck retains the current Diamond seats.

Supply chain issues have plagued the seating upgrades, notably delaying Allegris on aircraft like the Airbus A380 and 747-8i. Despite these hurdles, Lufthansa’s revamped cabins promise new technological enhancements, especially in Business and First Class.

SWISS, a Lufthansa Group airline, plans to introduce similar changes with its new Senses cabin. The cabins will initially appear on new Airbus A350s and retrofitted Airbus A330-300s.

While the Allegris program has not been seamlessly executed, with delays impacting several aircraft, the new cabins aim to set a higher standard for Lufthansa's future long-haul services. Despite challenges in its roll-out, the Allegris initiative continues to move forward, with the promise of enhanced amenities and comfort.
