It has been more than 50 years since the Boeing 747 first took to the skies, marking a significant milestone in aviation history. Known as the 'jumbo jet,' it played a crucial role in making global travel more accessible by offering high capacity and reduced per-seat costs. The Boeing 747, with its distinctive humped fuselage, has become an iconic symbol of air travel.

However, recent trends have seen airlines moving away from larger quadjets like the 747 in favor of more efficient twinjets. Despite this shift, nine airports are still witnessing an average of more than one 747 departure daily this May.

In China, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport will see 36 Boeing 747 departures this month. "All of these are Air China flights," operated on routes such as the one to Beijing Capital International Airport, Cirium data shows. Washington Dulles International Airport is another hub for the jumbo jet, with Lufthansa and Air China operating a total of 40 departures.

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport will also be busy with 43 departures split between the Boeing 747-400 and 747-8 models. Meanwhile, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is scheduled to handle 52 departures primarily on domestic routes operated by Air China.

New York's JFK Airport sees a similar pattern with Lufthansa and Air China combining for a total of 53 flights using the Boeing 747 family. Los Angeles International Airport marks a significant increase in activity with Korean Air and Lufthansa contributing to a total of 93 departures.

Seoul Incheon International matches LAX in terms of frequency but slightly edges out in seat capacity with all flights operated by Korean Air's Boeing 747-8s. Beijing Capital International remains a key player with its extensive network offering short domestic hops resulting in 162 departures.

Finally, Frankfurt Airport tops the list with an impressive count of 558 Boeing 747 departures handled exclusively by Lufthansa across various international destinations.

These figures highlight that despite declining passenger operations globally, certain hubs continue to maintain robust schedules featuring the iconic jumbo jet.
