Emirates has achieved a notable record in baggage handling, positioning itself as the top-performing airline globally. The airline reports that 99.9% of all baggage originating from or transferring through Dubai reaches its destination on time. The mishandling rate at Emirates' Dubai hub is 1.4 per 1000 bags, significantly lower than other airlines.

Globally, when delays occur, Emirates reunites 91% of delayed bags with their owners within 72 hours. This achievement is particularly significant given the complexity of international transfers handled by the airline.

The Lost and Found department also performs well, recovering and returning 94% of valuable items to customers in Dubai within an hour. These items are typically found on Emirates aircraft or at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport (DXB) and include essential travel items such as passports and phones.

In 2024, Emirates launched the Emirates Bag Connect tool for app and website users, providing comprehensive tracking of baggage journeys. An additional feature allows customers to track mishandled bag deliveries across 80 stations in Emirates' network.

At the Dubai hub, where approximately 2.8 million bags are handled monthly, around 2300 bags are found without tags each month. In collaboration with dnata teams, Emirates recovers about 80% of these bags before flight departure.

Occasional delays may occur due to torn baggage tags or operational disruptions like weather-related transfer flight delays. In such cases, systems like the Baggage Handling System by Dubai Airport and Baggage Reconciliation System by dnata work together to ensure bags reach their destinations promptly.

Emirates attributes its success in baggage handling to robust systems supported by multimillion-dollar investments tailored to specific needs. This ensures full visibility throughout a bag's journey from check-in to arrival at its final destination.

Continuous improvement over two decades underscores Emirates' commitment to innovation and excellence. Staff training is conducted regularly both virtually and manually on systems and best practices worldwide.

As a leading international airline flying to 140 destinations from one of the busiest airports globally, seamless collaboration between Emirates, dnata, and Dubai Airports ensures a smooth experience for passengers and their luggage.
