United Airlines has issued a reminder regarding the May 7, 2025, deadline for REAL ID enforcement and provided answers to common questions through its online resource.

According to United Airlines' official post on X, the airline has advised passengers that from May 7, 2025, travelers aged 18 or older must present a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or state-issued ID—marked with a star or flag—at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) airport checkpoints. The airline also shared a visual guide and a dedicated link to uafly.co/RealID to assist customers in confirming whether their ID meets federal requirements.

The TSA states that beginning May 7, 2025, passengers without a REAL ID-compliant license will need another acceptable form of identification, such as a U.S. passport, military ID, or Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Global Entry card. Enhanced driver's licenses issued by certain states also qualify if they meet federal security standards. The TSA emphasizes that non-compliant IDs will result in denied access to security screening and missed flights.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security explains that the REAL ID Act was enacted in 2005 in response to security concerns following the September 11 attacks and requires stricter standards for ID issuance and verification. After multiple postponements, the law is now fully effective and applies to all commercial air travel within the United States. The department encourages travelers to check for the star marking on their IDs and provides tools to help them determine if their documents qualify.

United Airlines, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is one of the largest full-service carriers in the United States and a founding member of the Star Alliance. According to its official website, United operates more than 4,500 flights daily to over 300 destinations across six continents. The airline offers customer-focused tools such as uafly.co for real-time travel updates and has integrated compliance information, including REAL ID guidance, into its digital experience to improve passenger preparedness.
