Air New Zealand has announced an investment of $1.2 million to support over 100 community nature projects across the country. This initiative, known as the Every Corner Project, was launched with an initial $1 million from the airline's Climate and Nature Fund. The project aims to support nature-based initiatives in all regions of New Zealand.

The airline received more than 640 applications from registered charities, schools/kura, and hapū. Due to the high quality of these applications, Air New Zealand increased its contribution to $1.2 million.

A total of 115 projects have been selected for funding. These projects cover a wide range of environmental actions such as native planting, wetland restoration, rainwater harvesting systems, community compost hubs, and predator control networks aimed at protecting threatened species.

Kiri Hannifin, Air New Zealand's Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, expressed admiration for the response: "New Zealand is intrinsically linked to and reliant on nature... We all have a part to play, and it's been humbling to see just how many New Zealanders are working tirelessly to protect and enhance the things that make our natural environment here so unique."

The selection process involved Air New Zealand's domestic port teams who reviewed applications from their respective communities. Hannifin noted their enthusiasm: "Our people have loved reading the applications and seeing the passion and care for nature in their local areas."

Hannifin emphasized Air New Zealand's commitment not only to reducing its carbon footprint but also to supporting existing environmental efforts across Aotearoa: "This project is about backing local communities, and we're proud to help bring these initiatives to life."

Funding will be distributed by the end of June, with projects expected to commence within the next year.
