United Airlines has resumed its international flights between Denver International Airport and Regina International Airport after a decade-long pause. This move comes amid fluctuating travel demand between the United States and Canada, influenced by recent political tensions.

The airline commenced daily operations on May 15, 2025, utilizing SkyWest Airlines' Bombardier CRJ200LR aircraft under the United Express brand. Regina Airport CEO James Bogusz noted that the inaugural flight was nearly sold out but expressed concerns over declining trans-border travel numbers due to ongoing trade conflicts initiated by the U.S.

"The future, though, is concerning. We are seeing, obviously, some softening of trans-border numbers," Bogusz commented. He attributed this to the decrease in cross-border capacity by airlines amid geopolitical strains.

Aviation analytics firm OAG reported a reduction in airline capacity between the U.S. and Canada until October 2025, with significant declines expected during peak summer months. Despite this trend, Bogusz observed a slight stabilization compared to previous months.

In response to shifting market dynamics, Canadian airline WestJet has increased its European routes since March 2025. However, Air Canada has not followed suit due to challenges in securing slots at major European airports.
