TAP Air Portugal has expanded its network in the United States by launching two new routes. The airline commenced flights between Lisbon and Los Angeles on May 16, marking its return to the California airport after a 35-year hiatus. This route now stands as TAP's longest nonstop service at 4,944 nautical miles, surpassing the Lisbon to San Francisco route.

The launch of this service means TAP now serves eight US airports, with flights operating four times a week until October 25. "The launch of Los Angeles flights means that the Portuguese flag carrier now serves eight US airports," stated an airline representative. TAP's initial round-trip operation was conducted using a CS-TUG A330neo aircraft.

Two days before the Los Angeles service began, TAP initiated flights from Porto to Boston on May 14. This route covers 2,732 nautical miles and operates four times weekly using an A321LR aircraft. Until last year, there were no direct services between these cities. Azores Airlines had previously operated a weekly service but did not continue due to performance issues.

TAP's new routes have increased its network to a record eleven routes in the United States. Nine are from Lisbon and two from Porto, with an emphasis on Star Alliance hubs such as Newark and Washington Dulles.

Flights from Lisbon to Los Angeles are scheduled four times weekly with varying departure times based on local schedules. Similarly, Porto to Boston flights operate four times weekly with different departure timings for each day of operation.

In addition to these new services, TAP will begin its first Lisbon-Terceira-San Francisco service in June, which will become its longest route overall when it replaces Azores Airlines' previous operations between Terceira and Oakland.
