Manchester Airport is undergoing significant changes as part of the £1.3 billion Manchester Airport Transformation Program (MAN-TP). This initiative aims to enhance passenger experiences and modernize facilities at this key UK transport hub, which includes three passenger terminals and a cargo terminal with flights to over 200 destinations worldwide.

As part of the program, CU Phosco has upgraded the apron lighting at Terminals 1 and 3. The project's main goals were to reduce energy costs associated with lighting while ensuring compliance with CAP168 regulations.

CU Phosco installed 238 FL800D-2 floodlights on 53 custom replacement lantern carriages. These floodlights are known for their performance and reliability, providing optimal illumination across all apron areas. The installation not only met CAP168 requirements but also supported the airport's energy efficiency objectives.

The FL800D-2 floodlights offer various optical distribution options and elevation angles, allowing for customized luminaire photometric output tailored to the project's specifications. Features such as full azimuth rotation, tilt functions, and built-in drivers contribute to an efficient lighting solution.

CU Phosco’s Contracts Division managed a complete turnkey service from initial surveys and lighting design to manufacturing and installing the bespoke lantern carriages. This implementation led to a substantial 65% reduction in energy costs for Manchester Airport Group, aligning with sustainability goals.

The new lighting solution enhances apron visibility with minimal glare, ensuring safe operations for pilots and airport personnel. It also improves safety by guaranteeing accurate identification of aircraft markings through its spectral distribution.

We are pleased with the results of the work that CU Phosco has undertaken on apron lighting, which means we now have a more efficient lighting system that is cost effective but meets all regulatory requirements.”
