Sidney Ho, General Manager of the Flying Food Group facility at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), said that Teamsters Local 2875 blocked the driveway, holding up drivers, including one carrying cargo for a Virgin Atlantic flight, until police arrived and negotiated their release.

"On Monday night 4/28 at 6:30pm, the Teamsters decided to block our driveway for over one hour (and not follow the so called 3 minute rule). The police were called, it took them over an hour to arrive," said Ho, General Manager, SFO Facility. "Upon arrival, they had to “negotiate” with the union leader (Sal) to let 2 trucks exit. The truck that was held back was the 2nd Virgin flight. It is likely that we delayed the flight. It seems that the Union knew that we had Virgin in the truck. Then another 5 trucks had to wait for over 10 minutes, again the police had to convince the union to allow the trucks to exit."

According to Ho, in comments to Sky Industry News, a labor dispute between the Teamsters union and Flying Food Group escalated on April 28, when Teamsters members blocked the facility’s driveway for over an hour and a half. This action prevented trucks from exiting and delayed at least one truck carrying cargo for a Virgin Atlantic flight. Ho reported that the union refused to follow a previously established "three-minute rule" for brief stops, prompting a call to South San Francisco police. Officers arrived more than an hour later and had to negotiate with the union’s onsite leader to allow the trucks to leave.

On April 29, police issued a formal notice to both the company and the union citing California law, which permits peaceful protest but prohibits unlawful conduct such as blocking access or causing disorder, Ho told Sky Industry News. Since this notice was issued, the company reports that union members have ceased blocking the driveway. However, they remain on alert and have advised staff to contact authorities if any further interference occurs.

Flying Food Group has been operating out of South San Francisco for over three decades and has been targeted by a strike from Teamsters Local 2785 since March 29, 2025. The strike followed more than two and a half years of unsuccessful contract negotiations during which the company submitted 13 proposals. While respecting workers’ rights to strike and protest, company leadership states that actions taken by union representatives—particularly repeated blocking of trucks bound for SFO Airport—have disrupted operations and delayed international flights. The company reports that police have been called over 20 times in the past month to address incidents including blocked driveways and road obstructions.

Founded in 1983 by Sue Ling Gin, Flying Food Group provides food catering services to major airlines including Air France, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Swiss Air, and TAP Air Portugal. The company is headquartered in Chicago.
