JetBlue has announced the extension of its flight suspension to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, through at least June 11, 2025. This decision follows ongoing civil unrest in the country and a flight ban imposed by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) due to worsening gang violence. The FAA's ban on flights into Haiti is set to expire on March 12.

JetBlue had initially suspended its flights from New York and South Florida to Port-au-Prince from November 2024 until April 30. However, recent data shows no scheduled commercial flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Haiti from September 2025 through April 2026.

A JetBlue spokesperson stated, "Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our customers and crew members. Due to the ongoing civil unrest in Haiti, we have made the decision to suspend all flights to and from the country through at least June 11, 2025. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update our plans as necessary."

The airport's perimeter security issues are a significant concern for airlines operating in Haiti. Gangs have entered the airport premises, leading to incidents such as firing upon three US flights, resulting in injuries. The violent control of major highways by gangs further complicates travel for foreign visitors.

According to Matt Borie, Chief Intelligence Officer for Osprey Flight Solutions, "Even if the FAA rescinds its restriction, airlines may not return... It’s a financial decision. It’s a reputational decision. It’s a risk decision."

American Airlines and Spirit Airlines have also indefinitely suspended their flights to Port-au-Prince. In response to these challenges, Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council has identified Antoine Simon International Airport as capable of receiving international flights following runway renovations.

Despite these developments, Toussaint Louverture International Airport remains open with deployments of foreign troops for a Kenya-led multinational security mission since the FAA announcement.
