Keith Brown Director Engineering | Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific recently celebrated the graduation of its latest batch of cadet pilots who completed the Cadet Pilot Training Programme. This marks the first time that the graduates' ground theory training was conducted in-house by Cathay Academy, highlighting Cathay's capability in delivering tailored and comprehensive training.

In addition to theoretical ground training, the cadet pilots underwent flight training at AeroGuard Flight Training Center in Arizona and Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC) training in flight simulators with Cathay Academy before graduating. These 34 graduates have joined Cathay Pacific as Second Officers and have begun their flying duties. The programme currently has over 500 cadet pilots in training.

The graduation ceremony, held on May 16 at Cathay City headquarters, featured Clara Wong, Acting Director-General of Civil Aviation, as the guest of honour. She remarked, “For over 35 years, Cathay Pacific’s cadet pilot training programme has served as a cornerstone for nurturing local aviation talent... This evolution aims to make pilot training more effective, efficient and sustainable.”

Alex McGowan from Cathay stated: “Developing aviation talent has always been a priority for Cathay... Today’s graduation carries special significance as it marks our first group of cadet pilots to go through our very own Cathay Academy ground school.”

Cathay Pacific offers integrated courses for its cadet pilots, including collaborations with Hong Kong Polytechnic University and its own academy. The programme launched in 1988 and has produced numerous Captains and management pilots.

Since 2022, over 1,000 cadets have been trained under this programme. In line with its goal to bolster Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub, Cathay plans to recruit more than 130 cadet pilots in 2025.

Enrolment for the Cadet Pilot Training Programme is open. Aspiring pilots are encouraged to visit [the provided link](https://careers.cathaypacific.com/jobs/cadet-pilot-programme-2590883) for application details.
