Cathay Pacific has announced a new feature in its baggage recovery process that allows customers to use Apple's Share Item Location. This feature aims to improve the experience for travelers by making it easier and faster to locate lost or delayed baggage.

The airline now enables passengers to privately share the location of their AirTags or Find My network accessories with Cathay Pacific's baggage service teams. This is intended to expedite the recovery process when luggage goes missing.

Cheuk Lo, Cathay Pacific General Manager Airport Service Delivery, commented on this development: "At Cathay Pacific, we’re continuously exploring new ways to further elevate the customer experience. Apple’s Share Item Location feature is a game-changer, empowering both our customers and our airport teams with faster and more efficient baggage recovery."

To utilize this feature, passengers must generate a Share Item Location link through the Find My app on their Apple device and send it via email to the airline's baggage services team at their destination airport. The shared link will be used by global airport teams to locate and return missing bags promptly.

The sharing of location data will end automatically once the customer retrieves their bag. Customers also have control over stopping the sharing at any time, and it expires after seven days for privacy reasons.

Apple's Find My network supports this feature through its extensive network of devices that help detect lost items using Bluetooth technology. The system ensures privacy as all processes are encrypted end-to-end, preventing unauthorized access to location data.

Travelers wishing to use this new function should ensure their Apple devices are updated with iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later versions.
