American Airlines is set to expand its regional route network with the addition of twice daily Embraer E175 flights between Chicago and Chattanooga. The new service, launching on October 6, 2025, will place American Airlines in direct competition with United Airlines on this route.

The flights will be operated by Republic Airways under the American Eagle brand. Inbound flights from Chicago O'Hare (ORD) to Chattanooga (CHA) are scheduled for daytime and evening departures, while return flights from CHA to ORD will take off in the early morning and evening.

Starting October 6, American Eagle will conduct two daily flights between Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport. The first flight, AA4661, departs ORD at 1:54 PM and arrives in CHA at 4:30 PM. The second flight, AA4511, leaves at 7:05 PM and reaches its destination at 9:41 PM. Both flights are expected to last about one hour and thirty-six minutes.

The return flight, AA4512, departs Chattanooga at 7:25 AM and arrives in Chicago at 8:25 AM with a duration of approximately two hours. The second daily departure, AA4661, is scheduled to leave at 5:00 PM and arrive at 6:00 PM.

United Airlines has been serving this route through its regional brand United Express via GoJet Airlines and SkyWest Airlines. With Chicago O’Hare being United's primary hub, it plans to offer more flights and greater capacity on this route compared to American Airlines. According to aviation analytics company Cirium, United will operate a total of 278 inbound and outbound flights offering around 15,200 seats in October using Bombardier CRJ-550s initially before switching entirely to Embraer E175s by November.

American Airlines will provide a total of 103 inbound and outbound flights offering approximately 7,828 seats in October with their Embraer E175 aircraft seating up to 76 passengers. By November, the carrier plans an increase to 120 flights.

In other developments from American Airlines' schedule updates include resuming Miami International Airport (MIA) to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) services later this year—a route not served since January of 2009—using Embraer E175 regional jets operated by Envoy Air under the American Eagle brand.
