Delta Air Lines flight 275, typically a transpacific service from Detroit to Tokyo, made an unscheduled stop in Los Angeles yesterday. The diversion occurred after the Airbus A350-900 encountered issues while flying over the Bering Sea. Instead of continuing its journey to Japan, the aircraft rerouted to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), landing five hours later.

The flight's departure from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was delayed by almost two hours due to the late arrival of its inbound sector from Amsterdam. Despite taking off at 15:53 local time, the aircraft did not reach its intended destination. According to Flightradar24 data, it landed in Los Angeles at 01:08 after spending over 12 hours airborne.

Reddit users speculated that de-icing problems might have prompted the diversion, though Delta has yet to confirm this. Simple Flying has reached out to Delta Air Lines for clarification on the matter.

"By the time it touched down in southern California, it had been in the air for more than 12 hours," stated Delta's report on the situation. This duration is nearly as long as the scheduled flight time between Detroit and Tokyo.

Flightradar24 reports that four hours post-arrival in Los Angeles, Delta flight 275 had not resumed its journey to Tokyo. While LAX is distant from its planned route, Redditors noted that it serves as a strategic hub for Delta.

The involved aircraft, registered as N508DN and part of Delta's fleet since early 2018, features seating configurations including business and economy classes. It remains uncertain when or if passengers will continue their travel plans aboard this particular plane.
