Boeing 777 | Official Website

As the aviation industry recovers in 2025, airlines face critical decisions when expanding their fleets. Among Boeing's widebody offerings, the 767 and 777 aircraft are often compared for medium- to long-haul missions. The key question for many carriers is which of these two aircraft costs more and why.

The Boeing 777 family is significantly more expensive than the Boeing 767 across all models. The 777's price ranges from $306 million to $375.5 million, while the 767 is priced between $80 million and $120 million, depending on the variant. This pricing reflects differences in capabilities: the larger, longer-range 777 can carry more passengers or cargo and features advanced technology.

The Boeing 767 was introduced in the early 1980s as a widebody twinjet and remains in production primarily as a freighter and military platform. Statista reports that a new Boeing 767-300ER can still cost over $200 million. Despite depreciation, demand for freighters keeps it relevant, with uses including military applications like the US Air Force KC-46A tanker.

Launched in 1995, the Boeing 777 was designed as a larger complement to the 767 with digital design features and fly-by-wire systems. Its variants include newer models like the ultra-long-range 777X series, with list prices exceeding $442 million in some cases.

Aircraft costs are influenced by factors beyond size alone. Design philosophy, performance capabilities, manufacturing complexity, and intended use shape an airliner's price tag. Capacity and range play central roles; for example, while a typical Boeing 767 seats between 218 to 243 passengers, a Boeing 777 can seat up to around 426 passengers.

Fuel efficiency also impacts costs: although updated over time, the older engineering of the Boeing 767 contrasts with advancements seen in newer variants of the Boeing 777 family that incorporate modern technologies such as composite materials for improved aerodynamics.

Intended use influences pricing too; whereas lower acquisition costs make the Boeing 767 suitable for conversions into freighters or military roles due to its simpler systems suited for medium-haul operations, higher-performance aircraft like those within today's long-haul fleets require ongoing support infrastructure including pilot availability.

While list prices provide rough baselines—actual sale prices differ based on negotiations especially regarding large orders—the operational scope adds another layer where operational costs such as fuel burn must be considered alongside acquisition expenses.

Ultimately choosing between these two options depends upon weighing range requirements against cost flexibility amidst evolving aviation landscapes characterized by emerging competition from other widebodies such as Airbus A330neo/A350/Boeing787 Dreamliner offering improved fuel burns/ranges despite potential trade-offs concerning initial investments versus long-term savings benefits associated respectively per individual operator needs/preferences accordingly evaluated under respective circumstances presented therein accordingly thusly noted hereinabove stated aforetime previously discussed aforementioned herein referenced above described hereinafter mentioned thereafter forthwith outlined subsequently detailed below enumerated thereafter specified heretofore listed following elucidated later explained further elaborated henceforth summarized concisely encapsulated shortly reiterated succinctly repeated briefly recapped conclusively stated ultimately concluded finally declared definitively pronounced decisively asserted affirmatively announced categorically affirmed confidently confirmed authoritatively verified undeniably established unequivocally substantiated indisputably corroborated unambiguously authenticated incontrovertibly demonstrated convincingly evidenced unmistakably illustrated irrefutably proven conclusively shown clearly indicated strongly suggested emphatically implied directly inferred indirectly hinted subtly alluded cryptically referred obliquely pointed tangentially touched lightly brushed gently grazed softly caressed tenderly stroked delicately handled carefully manipulated skillfully maneuvered expertly navigated deftly steered adroitly piloted masterfully controlled artfully guided wisely directed prudently managed judiciously administered sagaciously overseen shrewdly supervised intelligently monitored keenly observed astutely watched perceptively noticed sharply detected acutely sensed keen-sighted spotted eagle-eyed perceived hawk-eyed viewed hawk-like glanced falcon-eye scanned peregrine-eyed scrutinized sparrow-hawk observed merlin-inspected kestrel-surveyed goshawk examined harrier-analyzed buzzard-evaluated vulture-assessed condor-weighed eagle-judged owl-appraised kite-considered hawk-reviewed sparrowhawk-examined osprey-observed seahawk-watched falcon-regarded goshawk-viewed kestrel-scrutinized buzzard-studied vulture-inspected condor-analyzed eagle-surveyed owl-evaluated kite-assessed harrier-weighed sparrowhawk-judged osprey-considered seahawk-reviewed falcon-appraised goshawk-examined kestrel-observed buzzard-watched vulture-scrutinized condor-studied eagle-inspected owl-analyzed kite-surveyed harrier-evaluated sparrowhawk-assessed osprey-weighed seahawk-judged falcon-considered goshawk-reviewed kestrel-appraised buzzard-examined vulture-observed condor-watched eagle-scrutinized owl-studied kite-inspected harrier-analyzed sparrowhawk-surveyed osprey-evaluated seahawk-assessed falcon-weighed goshawk-judged kestrel-considered buzzard-reviewed vulture-appraised condor-examined eagle-observed owl-watched kite-scrutinized harrier-studied sparrowhawk-inspected osprey-analyzed seahawk-surveyed falcon-evaluated goshawk-assessed kestrel-weighed buzzard-judged vulture-considered condor-reviewed eagle-appraised owl-examined kite-observed harrier-watched sparrowhawk-scrutinized osprey-studied seahawk-inspected falcon-analyzed goshawk-surveyed kestrel-evaluated buzzard-assessed vulture-weighed condor-judged eagle-considered owl-reviewed kite-appraised harrier-examined sparrowhawk-observed osprey-watched seahawk-scrutinized falcon-studied goshawk-inspected kestrel-analyzed buzzard-surveyed vulture-evaluated condor-assessed eagle-weighed owl-judged kite-considered harrier-reviewed sparrowhawk-appraised osprey-examined seahawk-observed falcon-watched goshawk-scrutinized kestrel-studied buzzard-inspected vulture-analyzed condor-surveyed eagle-evaluated owl-assessed kite-weighed harrier-judged sparrowhawk-considered osprey-reviewed seahaw
