SBD Airport has highlighted the Norton Air Force Base Museum as a tribute to its military heritage and those who served, according to a post on X.

The Norton Air Force Base Museum, situated at 1601 E. 3rd Street in San Bernardino, California, preserves the legacy of Norton Air Force Base. The base operated from 1942 to 1994 as a logistics depot and heavy-lift transport facility for the U.S. Air Force, playing a significant role in military operations during its active years. According to the museum's official website, its mission is to honor and promote the history of the base and those who served there.

The museum is open to the public on Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering visitors an opportunity to explore various exhibits. These include artifacts such as uniforms, photographs, and equipment that showcase the base's operational history. According to the Inland Valley Development Agency, the museum also hosts special events and educational programs to engage the community and honor the legacy of the base.

One of the museum's notable exhibits is the personal footlocker of 1st Lt. Leland F. Norton, after whom the base was named. Norton was a San Bernardino native who died heroically during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross posthumously for his bravery in staying with his damaged aircraft to ensure his crew's safety. According to the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Norton's legacy is a central part of the museum's mission.

SBD Airport, officially known as San Bernardino International Airport, is located on what was once Norton Air Force Base. Since transitioning to civilian use, it has focused on providing aviation services while preserving its military heritage. According to its official website, SBD Airport continues to honor its roots through community engagement and partnerships like that with the Norton Air Force Base Museum.
