United Airlines has announced the addition of a nonstop route between Washington, D.C., and Dakar, Senegal. This marks the airline's sixth destination in Africa, as reported on social media platform X.

United Airlines commenced this service on May 23, 2025, operating three times weekly on a year-round basis using Boeing 767-300 aircraft. According to AirlineGeeks, this is United’s first direct connection between the U.S. capital and Senegal, aimed at enhancing travel options between these regions.

With Dakar added to its roster, United now serves six African destinations: Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, Accra in Ghana, Lagos in Nigeria, Marrakesh in Morocco, and Dakar in Senegal. As reported by Condé Nast Traveler, this expansion reflects United's commitment to increasing its presence on the African continent and addressing the growing demand for travel between the U.S. and various African nations.

The launch of the Washington-Dakar route is part of United's broader strategy to expand its international network. According to the Washington Informer, officials from United highlighted that this is currently the only nonstop connection from the Washington metropolitan area to Dakar. The new service is expected to facilitate cultural and economic exchanges between these two capitals.

United Airlines is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It operates a comprehensive domestic and international route network with a fleet of over 1,000 aircraft serving more than 380 destinations worldwide as of 2024. According to Wikipedia, United is a founding member of the Star Alliance and continues to play a significant role in global air travel.
