American Airlines grounds plane after engine issue at San Francisco airport

The airline has not confirmed whether the crew was aware of the smoke at takeoff or if their decision to proceed was based on available information at departure time.

The spokesperson further noted that the plane landed safely at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport nearly three hours later. A routine inspection after landing revealed debris identified as a left-engine thrust reverser liner on the runway. The FAA confirmed recovery of this debris. No injuries were reported in connection with this event.

Following this incident, American Airlines grounded the aircraft for additional inspection and maintenance procedures.

"Safety is our top priority and we are investigating this incident," said the spokesperson.

As of Monday, reports indicate that the plane remains out of service.
