WestJet has announced the inauguration of a new transatlantic flight service connecting Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). This marks the first nonstop option between these two cities, as per FlightAware data. The airline will operate six times weekly using Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets.

The route spans a distance of 3,041 miles (4,894 km), with westbound flights taking approximately seven hours and 21 minutes according to FlightConnections. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft is equipped with technology designed to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions by up to 14% compared to previous models.

Barry Flannery, Chief Commercial Officer of SMBC Aviation Capital, commented on the ongoing partnership with WestJet: "SMBC Aviation Capital is pleased to continue its partnership with WestJet, supporting their fleet expansion with these fuel-efficient, new technology aircraft. These Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft will allow WestJet to further grow their network and continue to serve their guests with affordable air travel options."

The new service represents a significant increase in WestJet's transatlantic seat capacity. Jared Mikoch-Gerke, Director of Alliances and Airport Affairs at WestJet, noted that this development "opens the door for record growth in Nova Scotia."

In addition to Amsterdam, WestJet plans to expand its European services from Halifax in 2025 with routes to Paris, London, Dublin, and Edinburgh. The airline's codeshare agreements with Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines aim to streamline travel experiences for passengers traveling between Canada and Europe.
