Delta Air Lines, Air France-KLM, Virgin Atlantic, and IndiGo have announced a new partnership aimed at enhancing travel options and connectivity between North America, Europe, and India. This collaboration seeks to expand the airlines' global reach and capitalize on India's rapidly growing aviation market.

The agreement comes just before IndiGo launches its first long-haul flights to Europe. It builds on IndiGo's existing partnerships with Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic while establishing new ties with Delta. The goal is to connect IndiGo’s domestic network with Delta’s presence in North America, Air France-KLM’s European and North American reach, and Virgin Atlantic’s transatlantic routes.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian stated, "This agreement is another example of our commitment to making travel more connected, more inclusive and more accessible. Combining our strengths with those of IndiGo, Air France-KLM, and Virgin Atlantic will enable us to offer unparalleled connectivity and convenience."

IndiGo aims to become a global player by 2030. Since 2022, it has partnered with Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic to provide access to over 30 destinations in India. The new partnership with Delta grants access to its transatlantic network.

The announcement coincides with IndiGo's upcoming long-haul flights to Amsterdam and Manchester using Boeing 787s leased from Norse Atlantic. Upon receiving regulatory approval, IndiGo will be able to sell partner flights under its own code. Customers can book onward travel on partner services across Europe and North America.

IndiGo customers will gain access to KLM flights from Amsterdam within Europe; Delta and KLM flights from Amsterdam to the US; and Virgin Atlantic flights from Manchester to the US. KLM will begin direct flights from Amsterdam to Hyderabad while marketing IndiGo flights beyond Hyderabad. Delta plans to resume service between Atlanta and Delhi but has not set a launch date.

IndiGo primarily operates single-aisle aircraft but is expanding its fleet for long-haul routes with an order for Airbus A350-900s expected in 2027. This expansion aligns with plans for ten new international destinations this year including London, Copenhagen, Athens, Siem Reap, and locations in Central Asia.

According to IATA data, India ranks as the third-largest air transport market by departing passenger traffic after the US and China.
