The United States Air Force (USAF) maintains a diverse fleet of aircraft, among which the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle stands out for its speed. Despite the introduction of newer models like the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, the F-15 remains the fastest jet in active service with the USAF.
The F-15E Strike Eagle, an all-weather multirole strike fighter developed in the 1980s, is designed for long-range interdiction without escort or electronic-warfare aircraft. This evolution from its predecessor continues to be a key asset for military operations in regions such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya.
Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Daren “Shotgun” Sorenson shared his experience with The War Zone: “...fill it up full of gas, and it’s still going to go, and it’ll go as high as you want and as fast as you want, and it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, this is how that jet was meant to be.’ I’ve been to 50,000 feet in this jet, and it does it with no problem.”
