Frédéric Léger Senior Vice President Commercial Products & Services | International Air Transport Association - IATA

Luis Gallego has assumed the role of Chair of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Board. In his statement, Gallego expressed his enthusiasm for the position, highlighting the challenges and strengths of the airline industry. "I am honored to be taking up the position of Chair of the IATA Board," he said. He acknowledged the industry's significant challenges, including environmental action, geopolitical shifts, supply chain issues, and infrastructure concerns. However, he also emphasized the industry's strengths, particularly its workforce's quality.

Gallego brings nearly three decades of experience in aviation to his new role. He became chief executive of International Airlines Group (IAG) in September 2020 after serving as chairman and chief executive at Iberia from January 2014. During his time at Iberia, he improved efficiency and customer service while enhancing the brand. Prior to that, he launched Iberia Express in 2012 and served as its chief executive.

Before joining Iberia Express, Gallego was chief operating officer at Vueling following its merger with Clickair in 2009—a company he co-founded in 2006. His career began at Spanish regional airline Air Nostrum where he held various positions between 1997 and 2006.

Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, expressed confidence in working with Gallego to address critical issues facing member airlines.
