Alaska Airlines has announced plans to launch a new direct flight route from Seattle, Washington, to Rome, Italy. The flights are set to commence in May 2026, with bookings opening in the fall of 2025. This development marks the first time a direct route will connect Seattle and Rome.

The airline aims to operate these transatlantic flights using Boeing 787-9 aircraft under a single air operator's certificate (AOC), which will technically position Alaska Airlines as the operator rather than its recently acquired Hawaiian Airlines. Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Airlines, expressed personal satisfaction with this addition to their network, noting his Italian American heritage and stating that "serving the route is a dream come true."

Alaska Airlines highlighted that Rome is the most popular European city not currently served by non-stop flights from Seattle. The airline noted that this connection would offer convenient one-stop flights between the West Coast and Hawaii to Rome. Additionally, it was mentioned that this new service aligns with Alaska Airlines' 'Alaska Accelerate' plan presented in December 2024.

The flight schedule includes departures from Seattle on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 18:00 local time (UTC -7), arriving in Rome at 13:45 local time (UTC +2) the following day. Return flights are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Rome will be Alaska Airlines' third long-haul destination announced after its merger with Hawaiian Airlines. Previously announced routes include Tokyo Narita International Airport and Seoul Incheon International Airport.

"Our hub at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is already the largest airline hub on the West Coast," stated Alaska Airlines. Historical data indicates that other airlines have previously operated one-stop services from Seattle to Rome or Milan Malpensa Airport.
