The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced the integration of its CO2 Connect tool into the Amadeus Travel Platform. This collaboration aims to meet the growing demand for transparency in carbon emissions as airlines work towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, emphasized the importance of this integration, stating that "IATA surveys reveal that close to 90% of passengers expect airlines or travel agents to provide carbon emission data for flights they have booked." He further noted that inconsistencies exist in current carbon calculations, with 79% of respondents indicating discrepancies.

The integration follows IATA CO2 Connect receiving ISO 14083 assurance. This standard aligns with a common methodology for greenhouse gas data collection and reporting across transport and logistics sectors. The new ISO standard is expected to underpin the Count Emissions EU regulatory proposal, which will define emissions calculations for all transportation modes within the European Union.

Decius Valmorbida, President of Travel at Amadeus, highlighted the increasing desire among travelers to understand their environmental impact: “More and more, travelers want to understand how their flight choices affect the environment. This is important not just for personal travel but also for corporations that need to track emissions and comply with regulations.” He welcomed IATA's CO2 Connect solution's integration into Amadeus’ platform.
