Marilyn Romano Regional Vice President | Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines has announced a new nonstop service connecting Seattle and Rome, marking the first time these two cities will be directly linked by air. The flights are set to commence in May 2026, with tickets available for purchase starting in fall 2025 on the airline's website.

Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Airlines, expressed his enthusiasm about the new route: "Serving Rome nonstop from Seattle is a dream come true. As an Italian American whose parents emigrated from Italy, this is a particularly meaningful addition to our network." He added that Rome has been a top-requested destination among Mileage Plan members and emphasized the convenience this new service will offer travelers from the Northwest and beyond.

The route will be operated using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and is part of Alaska Airlines' strategic plan, "Alaska Accelerate," which aims to enhance its global presence following its merger with Hawaiian Airlines. This development positions Seattle as a premier global gateway on the West Coast.

Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer at Aeroporti di Roma, commented on the significance of this new connection: "We are immensely proud that Alaska Airlines has chosen Rome as its first destination in Europe. This decision confirms the strategic relevance of our airport as a global hub for air connectivity."

Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino International Airport (FCO) offers extensive connectivity across Europe and beyond, making it an attractive destination for travelers seeking access to various regions. The airport is undergoing expansion and modernization efforts to improve passenger experience further.

Travelers interested in this new service can join an early-access list to receive notifications when flights become available for booking later this year.
