Five low-cost airlines in the United States have formed a new association called the Association of Value Airlines (AVA). The founding members include Allegiant Air, Avelo Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and Spirit Airlines. The announcement was made on June 3, highlighting their goal to provide a unified voice for low-cost carriers before Congress and other governmental bodies.
The AVA aims to ensure that affordable air travel remains a priority, especially for working families and underserved communities. They emphasized the importance of value airlines in offering low fares and stimulating competition by entering new markets. According to AVA, these airlines connect millions of Americans to various destinations that might otherwise be unserved.
The association also addressed challenges faced by low-cost carriers such as rising operating costs due to outdated regulations, taxation issues, pilot shortages, limited airport access, and inefficiencies in air traffic control. AVA plans to work with policymakers on bipartisan solutions to promote competition and infrastructure modernization.
