The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has reminded travelers to properly pack firearms before flying. This comes after three firearms were found in carry-on bags at San Antonio International Airport within three days. The TSA emphasized the importance of correct firearm storage following these discoveries on June 1, 2, and 3.

Since January 1, TSA agents have found 49 firearms during routine X-ray screenings at the airport, with 43 being loaded. The TSA warns that improperly packaged firearms can lead to fines exceeding $12,000 and loss of TSA PreCheck status. Offenders may also face enhanced security screening on future travels.

"When a TSA officer sees the image of a firearm on the X-ray screen, TSA immediately notifies officers with the San Antonio Police Department who respond to the security checkpoint," stated the agency. What happens next is decided by airport law enforcement.

Travelers must ensure firearms are unloaded, packed in a locked hard-sided case, and placed in checked baggage. Replicas should also be transported in checked luggage.

Other airports have faced similar issues. On May 27, Hollywood Burbank Airport reported three improperly stored firearms discovered that month. Anita Minaei from Hollywood-Burbank expressed concern over this increase.

Indianapolis International Airport saw four weapons detected within five days by May 20, totaling 18 for the year so far. Aaron Batt from Indianapolis International noted that while overall numbers are down from last year, recent incidents remain troubling.
